Microsoft Windows SMB Client Improper Access Control Vulnerability

Microsoft · Windows

CVSS 8.8 EPSS 79% 1 public exploit Fix deadline passed 10 November 2025

What it is

Microsoft Windows SMB Client contains an improper access control vulnerability that could allow for privilege escalation. An attacker could execute a specially crafted malicious script to coerce the victim machine to connect back to the attack system using SMB and authenticate.

Why we say that

  • EPSS puts exploitation in the next 30 days at 79%
  • 1 public exploit published
  • CISA's federal remediation deadline (2025-11-10) has passed
  • Listed in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalogue

Every line above comes from a named public source. Where the evidence is thin, we say so rather than inventing confidence — see methodology.

What to do

Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.

Public exploit code

Indexed from Exploit-DB. Presence of code raises urgency; absence does not mean safety.

What it costs when this goes wrong
